Answers

 (b) Fred Rogers, the beloved host of public television’s “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” spoke at commencement ceremonies in May 1991, telling graduates, “We don’t always succeed in what we try, but I think you’ll find it’s a willingness to keep trying that matters most.” He did not address a convocation.

 (c) After experimenting the previous year with removing trays, Dining Services went fully trayless, cutting down on hundreds of pounds of food waste per week in each dining hall, and saving thousands of gallons of water every week from fewer dishwasher cycles. In 2023, UConn was the only university in the country to earn four-star certification for every dining hall by the Green Restaurant Association.

 (b) Prior to 2000, women’s ice hockey was a club sport at UConn. In the year it became a Division I program, it competed as an independent (and won its first-ever Division I game in a 15-1 drubbing of Rhode Island). For one year, the team was part of the ECAC conference before joining its current home of Hockey East in 2002.

 (a) The wooden facility, which became a nighttime hotspot serving diner food and a convivial atmosphere, was somewhat unimaginatively named the Grill. In the mid-1960s, it was moved across campus and served as the warming hut for the old ice rink, before being demolished in 1998.
