The entirety of the darkness surrounding the cattle barn at the bottom of Horsebarn Hill gives it an alien glow. It's a 13-second exposure, camera resting on the fence, that brings out the color in the sky. We can see only a few of the young Hereford and Angus cattle inside as most are lying down. It's their bedtime, too — cows sleep standing up, sure, but only briefly and never deeply. The temperature is just starting to drop and we pull on jackets to head back to mid-campus.
